If, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, you find that you’ve managed to sleep through church and you’re feeling guilty, here’s a little something to soothe your soul (if you’re the type to feel guilty about sleeping through church, that is): This afternoon, Beth McKee and the Swamp Sistas, a grassroots community of musicians and artists, are teaming up with the Audubon Park Garden District to host a gospel brunch and Swamp Sista La La (basically, a feel-good event that does some good for the community). Chef Jamie McFadden will assemble a Southern-style brunch (the menu includes shrimp and grits, chicken and biscuits, pulled pork and tons more), and a variety of local musicians, including Beth McKee, Tina Nicole, Due South and Alexandra and the Beautiful Chorus, will fill the East End Market, inside and out, with the beautiful sounds of gospel music. Your penance for skipping out on your date with God is that you have to pay $75 for the grub (or $10 if you want the music only), but a portion of the proceeds will go to support a variety of local do-gooder orgs, including the P.E.A.S. Foundation, the Audubon Park Garden District, Hebni Nutrition Consultants and the Second Harvest Food Bank. Heavenly. – Erin Sullivan
